GENERATIVE AI POLICY
Generative Artificial Intelligence Policy
Guidelines governing the responsible, transparent and ethical use of Generative Artificial Intelligence and AI-assisted technologies in research and scholarly publishing.
The Nigerian Journal of Technical Education (NJTE) acknowledges the increasing use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and AI-assisted technologies in academic research, technical education, engineering, science and scholarly publishing.
NJTE is committed to ensuring that such technologies are used responsibly, transparently and ethically without compromising the originality, reliability or integrity of scholarly work.
Policy Statement
NJTE does not permit Generative Artificial Intelligence tools to serve as substitutes for genuine scholarly authorship.
Authors must not use GenAI tools to fabricate research, generate false findings or substantially replace the intellectual contribution expected from human authors.
All submitted manuscripts must represent the genuine intellectual contribution and scholarly work of the listed human authors.
Scope of the Policy
This policy applies to all components of manuscripts, including:
- Article titles
- Abstracts
- Introductions
- Literature reviews
- Research methodologies
- Data analysis
- Results
- Discussion
- Conclusions and recommendations
- References and citations
- Tables and figures
- Figure captions
- Supplementary materials
- Cover letters
- Responses to reviewers
Permissible Limited Uses
AI-assisted technologies may be used for limited technical purposes that do not replace the author's intellectual contribution.
- Spelling correction
- Grammar checking
- Formatting assistance
- Language improvement that does not substantially generate scholarly arguments
Authors remain fully responsible for reviewing and verifying all AI-assisted modifications.
Author Disclosure
Authors must disclose substantial use of AI-assisted technologies where such tools have contributed materially to manuscript preparation.
The disclosure should identify:
- The name of the AI tool used
- The purpose for which it was used
- The section or aspect of the manuscript affected
Prohibited Uses
- Fabricating research results
- Inventing citations or references
- Generating nonexistent scholarly sources
- Producing false data
- Manipulating research findings
- Creating misleading images or figures
- Concealing plagiarism
- Misrepresenting authorship
- Replacing substantive human intellectual contribution
AI and Authorship
Artificial Intelligence systems including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and comparable technologies must not be listed as authors or co-authors.
Authorship requires responsibility and accountability for the originality, accuracy, integrity and ethical conduct of research. Artificial Intelligence systems cannot assume these responsibilities.
Reviewer and Editorial Responsibilities
Violations
Confirmed violations may result in:
- Rejection of the manuscript
- Withdrawal of the submission
- Correction of the publication record
- Retraction of a published article
- Temporary restriction from submitting manuscripts to NJTE
- Notification of the author's institution in serious cases

NJTE supports responsible technological innovation while maintaining that published scholarly work must reflect genuine human intellectual contribution, accountability and academic integrity.
